Effective January 1, 2005, the United States District Court for the District of Maryland will begin implementing a change in the attorney renewal process so that attorneys will renew their membership every six years instead of every three years as is the current practice. From 2005 through 2007 some attorneys will be renewed for three years and others for six years so that the new process can be phased in gradually. Beginning in 2008, all attorneys will be renewed for a six-year period. Attorneys being renewed for three years will be charged a fee of $30.00. Attorneys being renewed for six years will be charged a fee of $60.00.
Renewal notices will be sent to the address the court currently has on file for each attorney. Members of the bar are reminded that they are under a continuing obligation to keep their addresses current regardless of whether they have any pending cases. The renewal notice will specify whether you are being renewed for three or six years and the amount of the fee.
