Swearing-In of Paula Xinis as United States District Judge

During a private ceremony held this morning, Paula Xinis was sworn in as a United States District Judge for the District of Maryland. Judge Xinis was formerly a partner at Murphy, Falcon & Murphy, as well as an assistant federal public defender in the District of Maryland. Judge Xinis completed her bachelor’s degree with Highest Distinction from the University of Virginia in 1991, and she graduated from Yale Law School in 1997. Following law school, Judge Xinis clerked for the Honorable Diana Gribbon Motz of the United States Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit.

The President nominated Judge Xinis on March 26, 2015, to fill the vacancy created when the Honorable Deborah K. Chasanow took senior status. The Senate confirmed Judge Xinis’s nomination on May 16, 2016. Judge Xinis will be assigned to the United States Courthouse in Greenbelt. A public investiture will be held this fall in the Greenbelt courthouse.
