Chief Judge Transition

Judge Catherine C. Blake will become chief judge of the United States District Court for the District of Maryland on October 4, 2014, following Judge Deborah K. Chasanow taking senior status on October 3, 2014. Judge Chasanow has served as chief judge since January 4, 2010.

Judge Chasanow was appointed as United States Magistrate Judge for the District of Maryland in 1987. In 1993, President Clinton nominated her to be a United States District Judge. After being confirmed by the Senate on October 18, 1993, Judge Chasanow received her commission on October 20, 1993. Judge Chasanow will continue in judicial service as a senior judge.

Judge Blake was appointed a United States Magistrate Judge for the District of Maryland in 1987. In 1995, President Clinton nominated her to be a United States District Court Judge. After being confirmed by the Senate on August 11, 1995, Judge Blake received her commission on August 14, 1995. Judge Blake previously served as this Court’s Administrative Judge from April 1999 to January 3, 2003.
