Notice of Electronic Filing in CVB Cases

Wednesday, September 12, 2012

Earlier this year, the U.S. District Court for District of Maryland became the first federal court in the country to convert its traffic and misdemeanor docket to the existing federal electronic filing system, CM/ECF. As a result, defense counsel in these cases should begin filing documents electronically through CM/ECF instead of sending paper documents to the Clerk’s Office.

Effective November 1, 2012, the Clerk’s Office will no longer accept faxes or emailed documents from counsel in CVB cases once the case is available on CM/ECF. The Court’s Criminal Procedures Manual explains the procedures and requirements for using CM/ECF in criminal cases in this Court. The document is available on our website.

If you are defense counsel in a CVB case without a CM/ECF account in this Court, you can get CM/ECF access one of two ways:

1. If you are an active member of our bar, register for CM/ECF through our website.

2. If you are not an active member of our bar, send the Clerk’s Office a completed Entry of Appearance in a Criminal Case form.  Additional information is available on our website at www.mdd.uscourts.govcriminal-defense-attorneys

Note: Non-members of the bar will need to complete the appearance form for every new CVB case.

The Clerk’s Office also offers online CM/ECF training materials through the court's website.
