There is no charge for registering to use the electronic filing system. However, only a member in good standing of the bar of this Court or entitled by statute or Local Rule to practice without being a member of our bar may be issued electronic filing credentials. Since January 2012, all active members of the bar must register for CM/ECF. Since April 2015, all newly admitted members of our bar are automatically issued local CM/ECF credentials at the time of admission. CM/ECF credentials will not be issued to paralegals, secretaries, or other paraprofessionals.
All active attorneys in good standing without local CM/ECF credentials may register for electronic filing on our website at http://www.mdd.uscourts.gov/electronic-case-filing-registration. As part of the registration process, attorneys consent to electronic service under the Federal Rules.
An attorney may register his or her bar number only once. If the information has been misplaced, the attorney will need to contact the Clerk’s Office at 410-962-2600, to have the information reissued.
Attorneys for the federal government may enter special appearances and receive temporary access to CM/ECF. Attorneys admitted pro hac vice may also receive temporary access to CM/ECF, and additional information is available on our website at http://www.mdd.uscourts.gov/pro-hac-vice-admission.
Checking Your Login and Password
When you receive your login and password, you should log in to the system to ensure they work. The login and password fields are case sensitive so you must type them exactly as they appear in the email. If you are unable to log in to the system, you should contact this Court’s IT Help Desk by calling 410-962-4058.
