On July 1, 2012, the U.S. District Court for District of Maryland became the first federal court in the country to convert its traffic and misdemeanor docket to the existing federal electronic filing system, CM/ECF. Since November 1, 2012, defense counsel in these cases should be filing documents electronically through CM/ECF instead of sending paper documents to the Clerk's Office for filing.
The Court’s Electronic Case Filing Criminal Procedures Manual explains the procedures and requirements for using CM/ECF in criminal cases in this Court. and is located on our website under E-Filing Procedures.
If you are defense counsel in a CVB case without a CM/ECF account in this Court, you can get CM/ECF one of two ways:
- If you are an active member of our bar, register for CM/ECF through our website here.
- If you are not an active member of our bar, send the Clerk’s Office a completed Entry of Appearance in a Criminal Case form. Additional information for special appearances in criminal cases is available on our website under Attorney Information. Note: Non-members of the bar will need to complete the appearance form for every new CVB case.
