The judges of the United States District Court for the District of Maryland are pleased to announce the eighth biennial Judge Edward S. Northrop Lecture will be held on October 18, 2018. This year’s guest lecturer is Robert Barnes, Supreme Court Correspondent, The Washington Post. The lecture will begin at 6:30 p.m. at the United States Courthouse, 6500 Cherrywood Lane, Greenbelt, Maryland. The lecture is open to members of the bar and the public. Judge Edward S. Northrop served as a United States District Judge in this Court from 1961 to 2003, including serving as Chief Judge from 1970 to 1981. The United States District Court and the George Washington University Law School established this lecture series in 2004 in memory of Judge Northrop and in recognition of his distinguished service to the court. The lecture is held in alternating years and its past speakers have been Associate Justice Sandra Day O’Connor of the United States Supreme Court (2004); Linda Greenhouse, New York Times correspondent (2006); Jeffrey Toobin, CNN senior analyst (2008); Joan Biskupic, author and journalist (2010); Associate Justice Stephen Breyer of the United States Supreme Court (2012); General William K. Suter, Clerk of the United States Supreme Court (retired) (2014); and Kenneth Feinberg former administrator of the September 11th Victim Compensation Fund (2016).
