During a private ceremony held this morning, Paul W. Grimm was sworn in as a United States District Judge. Judge Grimm has served as a United States Magistrate Judge in this Court since 1997, as well as this Court’s Chief Magistrate Judge from 2006 to 2012. The President nominated Judge Grimm on February 16, 2012, to fill the vacancy created when Judge Benson Everett Legg took senior status. The Senate confirmed Judge Grimm’s nomination on December 3, 2012. Judge Grimm will be stationed in the Greenbelt courthouse, and a public investiture will be held in 2013.
The United States District Judges have designated Timothy J. Sullivan to fill the Magistrate Judge vacancy created by Judge Grimm’s new appointment. Mr. Sullivan will be appointed and sworn into office later this month, and he will be stationed in the Baltimore courthouse. A public investiture will be held in 2013.
United States Magistrate Judge William Connelly has been named as the new Chief Magistrate Judge. Judge Connelly is stationed in the Greenbelt courthouse and has been a United States Magistrate Judge in this Court since his appointment in 1995.
United States District Judge George L. Russell, III, will also begin sitting exclusively in the Baltimore courthouse as of January 2013.
