Removals

Removal actions are exempt from electronic case opening and must be filed in paper with the Clerk's Office. See Electronic Filing in Civil Cases.

The following directions explain what and how to prepare your materials for a new removal action.

1. Scan any state court documents being filed which do not exist in electronic format. Each document must be scanned separately.  Any single scanned state court document that is excessively lengthy (more than 30 megabytes) should be treated as a lengthy document. See Lengthy Documents.

2. Submit a CD to the Clerk’s Office containing separate PDF versions of the notice of removal, civil cover sheet, and each state court document. The notice and each state court document must be a separate PDF.

3. Provide the Clerk’s Office with a paper copy of the notice of removal, civil cover sheet, and any state court documents filed.
