Removals

Removal actions may now be filed electronically.  The following directions explain what and how to prepare your materials for a new removal action.

1. Scan any state court documents being filed which do not exist in electronic format. Each document must be scanned separately.  Any single scanned state court document that is excessively lengthy (more than 30 megabytes) should be treated as a lengthy document. See Lengthy Documents.

2. Open the civil case electronically and docket the notice of removal as the lead event.  See Civil Case Opening Procedures.  All state court documents must be filed as separate attachments to the notice of removal, and properly labeled as to what the state court document is (i.e., Complaint, Answer, etc.).  If, after filing the case, you realize a mistake was made, contact the Clerk’s Office to notify it of the error so that corrective action may be taken to rectify the problem.  Do not attempt to open another case.
