George J. Hazel, District Judge

Judge George Jarrod Hazel was born in Queens, NY in 1975. He graduated from Morehouse College, cum laude, in 1996 and from the Georgetown University Law Center in 1999.

Judge Hazel began his legal career as an associate at the law firm of Weil, Gotshal & Manges LLP in Washington, DC from 1999 to 2004. He served as an Assistant United States Attorney in the District of Columbia from 2005 to 2008 and in the District of Maryland from 2008 to 2010 where he served as Southern Division coordinator for Project EXILE. From 2011 until his appointment to the bench, Judge Hazel served as Chief Deputy State's Attorney for Baltimore, Maryland.

On September 25, 2013, President Barack Obama nominated Judge Hazel to serve as a United States District Judge. On May 1, 2014, the United States Senate confirmed his nomination and he received his judicial commission on May 2, 2014. 

Judge Hazel serves on the Board of Deacons at the Metropolitan Baptist Church and is a member of the Lawyers Round Table.

Judge Hazel resigned from the bench on February 24, 2023.
