What is the cost for applying to the bar?
The fees for admission to the Bar are as follows:
- Initial Application: $200
- Renewal Fee: $75
- Reactivation Application: $150

How do I apply to the U.S. District Court's bar?

Do I qualify for admission?
Eligibility for admission is governed by Local Rule 701. Please review the rule carefully to determine if you meet the requirements.

Do I have to attend the ceremony in person?
Yes. Two swearing-in ceremonies are scheduled each month: one at the Baltimore Courthouse and one at the Greenbelt Courthouse. Attendance at one of these ceremonies is mandatory.

How long will it take to review my application?
Please allow at least fourteen days for the Court to review your application. During this period, you may be contacted for additional information or if you do not meet the eligibility requirements. Failure to respond promptly may result in administrative denial of your application.

Does my sponsor have to attend the swearing-in ceremony?
Yes. Your sponsor is required to attend the ceremony with you.
