Swearing-In of Julie R. Rubin as United States District Judge

During a private ceremony held this morning, Julie R. Rubin was sworn in as a United States District Judge for the District of Maryland.  Judge Rubin is formerly an Associate Judge of the Baltimore City Circuit Court where she has served after appointment by Governor Martin O’Malley on January 9, 2013 and election to a 15-year term in 2014.  Prior to her service as a judge, Judge Rubin worked in private practice.  Born and raised in Baltimore, Judge Rubin completed her bachelor’s degree, cum laude, at Mount Holyoke College.  She later graduated, with honors, from the University of Maryland School of Law.  During law school, Judge Rubin served as an Asper Fellow to now-retired U.S. District Judge Marvin J. Garbis of this Court. 

The President nominated Judge Rubin on November 3, 2021, to fill the vacancy created when the Honorable Ellen L. Hollander assumed senior status.  The Senate confirmed Judge Rubin’s nomination on March 23, 2022.  Judge Rubin is assigned to the United States Courthouse in Baltimore.  A formal investiture ceremony will be held at a later date in the Baltimore Courthouse.
